Brief Bio

My name is Karthik Thiagarajan. I am an educator at the high school and undergraduate level in the fields of mathematics and data science. I work as a teaching fellow at the BS program in Data Science and Application at IIT Madras. I have been associated with the BS program since its inception in the year 2021.

Education and Work

I have a B.Tech degree in mechanical engineering from IIT Madras. I have about a couple of years of experience working as a data scientist for two data science companies: [24]7.ai and HyperVerge. I was associated with the RISE lab and the Robert Bosch Center for Data Science and AI for about three years, where I was under the guidance of professor Balaraman Ravindran.

BS Program

Back to the BS program. I have been a part of the following courses in the program with varying levels of involvement:

  • Computational Thinking
  • Programming in Python
  • Mathematics for Data Science-II
  • Machine Learning Foundations
  • Machine Learning Techniques
  • Deep Learning
  • Mathematical Thinking
  • Algorithms for Data Science
  • Reinforcement Learning

Typically, I am involved in the following activities for a given course:

  • creating various types of assessments
    • weekly assessments and
    • question papers for exams
  • recording tutorials
  • synchronous support in the form of live lectures, doubt-clearing sessions and pre-exam revision sessinos
  • asynchronous support via discussion forums and chat spaces
  • conducting workshops

Besides this, I also have an obsession for creating supplementary content for courses in the form of notes and slides. I am quite active on Discourse. My Discourse handle is Karthik_POD.

Interests

Apart from academics, my interests include carnatic music and reading the works of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother.

The Cauldron?

This website is some sort of an intellectual cauldron into which all things enter. Hopefully, something meaningful will come out of it every now and then.
